MERGE
Merge was the first duet work created and performed by Meghan Chalmers and Franny McCabe-Bennett. It is a 15 minute performance masque, created from previously existing and published text, performed in the Spring of 2012 at Humber College, where the two met.
Merge explored the many different meanings and interpretations of the word "merge", including the merging of people in relationships and friendships, and the merging of life and death. The whole performance piece was a merging of ideas and text in itself! Merge was very well-received and was the beginning of an artistic partnership between Meghan and Franny.
Trivia: this piece is where the name Two Juliets came from! One moment in the masque combines two Juliet monologues from Romeo and Juliet into a single piece spoken by two actors, allowing the monologues to take on deeper meaning when juxtaposed against each other, highlighting funny moments and letting vulnerable moments hit home in a different way. This union is a perfect example of how the Juliets work and set the tone for future collaborations.
